Albumen enlargement of earlier full length studio CDV portrait of Lt. Joseph M. Irwin. Signed to image, "Lieut. Joseph M. Irwin / 131st Penna. Vol. 1865."
The albumen appears to be an enlargement of an early CDV photograph of Irwin, cradling his sword in an unknown studio. The 131st Pennsylvania served for only nine months, but in that time was bloodied at Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Chancellorsville, sustaining 83 casualties.
