**First Time At Auction**
Central America, Guatemala, ca. early 20th century. A wonderful trio of hand-carved and hand-painted wooden dance masks, perhaps representing characters from the "Dance of the Conquest". Each visage presents with skillfully delineated facial features, mustaches (one with a goatee as well), and thick coiffures. All have openwork eyes for the wearer to see; two with long eyelashes surrounding the openings which is traditional to the culture; and one has a pair of perched black birds with red breasts and white details flanking his forehead. Together they make a fabulous ensemble! Size of largest: 7.25" W x 9.125" H (18.4 cm x 23.2 cm)
Provenance: private Los Angeles County, California, USA collection, acquired by descent from the owner's father, collection amassed between 1950 and 1990

Condition
Expected nicks and scratches to versos with some glue remains around verso of ocular region of each. A few light nicks and minor chips to peripheries. Otherwise, very nice with impressive remaining pigment and perforations at top centers for attachment/suspension.
