Description
**First Time At Auction**
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd century CE. A mold-formed pottery oil lamp with a bullseye-style base, gradually expanding walls, an ovolo shoulder pattern, a petite fill hole inside the tondo, and a rounded wick spout. Displayed within the recessed tondo is a stylized countenance, perhaps that of Bacchus, with centrally parted bangs surrounded by broad flower petals. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 3.375" L x 2.875" W (8.6 cm x 7.3 cm)
Provenance: ex-private Mazard family collection, France, acquired in the 1970s

Condition
Restoration to neck area of wick spout as well as small area of shoulder, with light resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and minor nicks to base, and body, with light softening to some finer details, and some encrustations. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
