Description
**First Time At Auction**
Ancient Near East, Holy Land, Late Roman Imperial to early Byzantine period, ca. late 4th to 7th century CE. A mold-formed terracotta oil lamp resting on a circular foot with a raised 'bullseye' motif, a rounded body with a carinated midsection, a wide fill hole in front of a squat conical handle, and a tapered wick spout. The fill hole is surrounded by a register of petite branches, and an abstract anthropomorphic face along the neck presents with curved brows and wide eyes with the wick spout doubling as the 'mouth.' Size: 2.3" W x 1.7" H (5.8 cm x 4.3 cm).

Condition
Repair to wick spout, with light resurfacing along break lines. Minor nicks to fill hole rim, foot, and body, with softening to some raised details, and light char marks to front of wick spout. Nice earthen deposits and light manganese blooms throughout.
