President John Tyler Signed Infantry Military Commission
JOHN TYLER (1790-1862). 10th President of the United States from 1841 to 1845, after briefly serving as the tenth vice president (1841); he was elected to the latter office on the 1840 Whig ticket with President William Henry Harrison.
February 17, 1845-Dated Pre Mexican-American War, Partly-Printed Vellum Document Signed, "John Tyler" as President, measuring 14.75" x 17", at Washington, on vellum, Choice Very Fine. A highly ornate Military Commission appointing "Christopher C. Auger" as a "Brevet Second Lieutenant of Infantry". Countersigned by "Wm Wilkins" as Secretary of War. Features classic engravings of an American heraldic eagle at the top, militaria displayed at the bottom, and intact white Embossed Paper Seal at lower left. Some typical light folds, overall bright, clean and having a huge deep dark brown full signature "John Tyler" measuring 3.75" long with his flourish below. A lovely, well preserved Military Appointment.
