Description
New World, Guatemala, ca. mid 20th century CE. A fantastical, striking festival mask in the form of a bat, with the head of the animal forming the lower part of the mask; the ears project upward and a big, brightly painted crest is between the two eye holes. A long, curled tail rises from the top of the mask; a long, rolled red tongue hangs down from the chin. Four projecting poles emerge from the back to enable it to be held. Size: 9.75" L x 6" W x 15" H (24.8 cm x 15.2 cm x 38.1 cm)

Condition
Signs of wear on surface commensurate with age; small surface cracks but they seem to be on the heavy paint rather than structural. The tongue and ears are fragile.
