Description
Central America, Guatemala, 20th century CE. A huge wooden mask, painted realistically, showing a pale-complexioned person with blue eyes and straight brown hair. Slits under the eyes provide vision for the wearer, and an opening in the mouth allows them room to breathe. This type of mask may have been made to recreate the conquistadors, a common theme in Central American cultural festivals that require masks. Size: 7.5" L x 8" W x 10.2" H (19 cm x 20.3 cm x 25.9 cm)
