Scarce June 16, 1775 RI Ten Shillings Note PCGS EF-40
Colony of Rhode Island. June 16, 1775. Ten Shillings. PCGS graded Extremely Fine-40.
Fr. RI-193. This pleasing PCGS graded Extremely Fine-40 note that is among the Finest known. It is a solid example of this important 1775 Revolutionary War Rhode Island currency issue. All printed text is clear and easily readable. The laid period paper is circulated yet quite clean with only trivial scattered tone spots. Red and brown signatures of Thomas Greene and John Cole are clearly readable. Holder states Apparent small edge split at left, minor stains. This well centered note that is far above average and the Friedberg reference lists this note as “Rare” being unpriced in this quality. Whereas the Newman book shows a value of $2,250 in Very Fine yet is unpriced in EF. Only 2,000 notes were printed. Ex: John J. Ford, Jr. Collection Sale, Part XV, October 2006, Lot 8661.
