Cermak (Bohemian/American 1873-1933) was elected the 35th Mayor of the city of Chicago in 1931, bringing his adroit management of political influence to the aid of presidential candidate Franklin D. On February 15, 1933 while appearing with Roosevelt in Miami, Florida, Cermak was mortally wounded during an assassination attempt on the president-elect, and died three weeks later on March 6th.
