Superb 1862 Civil War Date Abraham Lincoln Letter to his Secretary of War Edwin Stanton on "Executive Mansion" Headed Sheet Written in Lincoln's Own Hand
ABRAHAM LINCOLN (1809-1865). Sixteenth President of the United States, serving from throughout the American Civil War until his Assassination at Ford’s Theater by John Wilkes Booth in April of 1865.
May 15, 1862-Dated Civil War Dated, Autograph Letter Signed, "A. Lincoln" as President, to Edwin Stanton as Secretary of War, on plain paper headed "Executive Mansion" written in Lincoln's hand, 1 page, measuring 4.75" x 6.75" (by sight), Choice Extremely Fine. Superbly written in deep rich bold brown ink on clean fresh paper, being easily readable and magnificent in its overall quality and eye appeal. This "Executive Mansion" headed ALS is beautifully matted and framed to 18" x 14.25" together with a large reproduced image of a c. 1860 beardless Lincoln in a decorative framed display. Here, President Abraham Lincoln tries very hard to get Captain Symmes Gardner into the Army Quartermaster Corps. It reads, in full:

"Executive Mansion -- May 15, 1862. -- Hon. Sec. of War - My dear Sir -- Capt. Symmes Gardner was nominated to the Senate as Assistant Quartermaster, and rejected. My impression is that I directed his renomination, on information from Senators, that the rejection probably resulted from mistake. If there be such direction of mine on file, please send me to the renomination at once. -- Yours truly, (Signed) A. Lincoln".

Lincoln's efforts were in vain as Captain Gardner was mustered out of the 18th Infantry regiment in December 1863. This very Letter is further documented and recorded within “The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln” - Volume 5 - Page 217.
