Fully Signed “Abraham Lincoln” Civil War Commission
ABRAHAM LINCOLN (1809-1865). 16th President of the United States, serving throughout the American Civil War until his Assassination at Ford’s Theater by John Wilkes Booth in April of 1865.
March 12, 1863-Dated Civil War, Partially-Printed Document on Vellum, Signed “Abraham Lincoln,” as President of the United States, being a superior quality Union Officers Military Commission appointing T.K. Church as Captain and Assistant Quartermaster of Volunteers, Choice Extremely Fine. This original 17.5” x 13.75” Civil War document has a strong rich 3” long signature “Abraham Lincoln” in the lower right with just a fold line running across, and also has a 3.25” signature of Edwin Stanton as Secretary of War. This marvelous, official, United States Commission Certificate is decorated with large, ornate vignettes near the top and bottom, the large official bright Green Seal is fully intact at the upper left, engraved by J. V. N. & C. H. Throop in Washington. This impressive certificate is in extremely nice condition having a clean bright appearance, typical folds, but no holes or tears.
