Simon Cameron (1799-1889) Politician. Cameron represented Pennsylvania in the United States Senate and served as Secretary of War under President Abraham Lincoln at the start of the Civil War. He administered the War Department with such favoritism that Lincoln replaced him with Edwin M. Stanton, and he was censured for his conduct by the House of Representatives. 5 ¾” x 9” letter signed, August 30, 1859, to J, B. Eshilman. “…it is not in my power to procure a full …of the People vs R Root reports….” Includes the original envelope which has been free franked.
