Description
An American Revolutionary War period signed order written to Jabez Huntington, Sheriff of the County of Windham Connecticut dated 16 March 1781, and bearing a signature of George Washington. Note authorizes Huntington to discharge Egerton Lawrence who became a prisoner of war. Headquarter at New Windsor, New York, and dated March 16th 1781. In March of 1781, Washington was in Connecticut making plans with Count Rochambeau to use of the French navy in support of the American war effort. This document appears to relate to the confining of a man in jail. Note is matted and framed with an image of George Washington to the left. Note 4-1/2" high x 6-3/4" wide; overall 12-1/8" high x 18" wide. Note with fading, fold lines, and wear consistent with age.DP. IMPORTANT: Before bidding, please read the terms and conditions.
