Description
Jean Baptiste Gouvion (1747-1792) French soldier, engineer. Gouvio served alongside American forces during the Revolutionary War. He worked to organize the siege works at Yorktown and was praised by Washington for his engineering and military prowess. He was killed while serving in the French National Guard while serving under Lafayette. 7” x 9” document signed, “Gouvion”,in French, no date, “Etat Major General,” the document is military pass, “…Pass M. Taverniere…into the Champs de Mars where he is engaged in duties in relation to the Artillery….” Inlaid to a larger sheet, scattered foxing.
