1865 U.S. Senator Richard Yates of Illinois sent letter to Swander, Bishop & Co., Philadelphia, thanking them for writing "The Medallion Allegorical Portrait of Abraham Lincoln", Yates wrote that their article was a "beautiful specimen of art worthy of a place in the home of every citizen and admirer of the great and good Lincoln and of his immortal Proclamation", 10"T x 8"W, included with the letter are CDV's of Lincoln and Yates. Yates was a friend and ardent supporter of Lincoln, Illinois Civil War governor 1861-1864 and served in the US Senate from 1865-1871, Yates CDV is signed "Richard Yates.
