Description
Greece, Tanagra, Boeotia, ca. 4th century BCE. A gorgeous kylix (drinking cup) with finely shaped squared-off handles, a wide, evenly sloping bowl, and a delicate round foot joined to the body by a narrow leg. The interior has a simple ringed decoration with dark red alternating with brighter red/orange. Similar excavated examples have attributed this inner ring to the presence of another kylix stacked atop it during the firing process. The exterior has a palmette decoration around the bowl; these are linked by vine tendrils terminating in volutes under each handle. Size: 6.6" L x 8.4" W x 2.55" H (16.8 cm x 21.3 cm x 6.5 cm)
