Description
Magna Graecia, Southern Italy, Campania, Gnathian, ca. 340 to 320 BCE. A wheel thrown, twin bifurcated handled kylix (drinking cup) with a corsetted body, raised on a stem from a round foot. The body is elegantly decorated on one side (from top to bottom) with a row of tongues, a wavy band, a dotted band, and a large register of grapevines, and on the other, a double line surrounded by rows of dotted motifs, all done with fugitive white and cream paint on a black ground. The clay is pale orange. A stunning example. Size: 6.25" W x 3.75" H (15.9 cm x 9.5 cm)
