Description
[POTTERY]. [NELSON, Lord Horatio (1758-1805), subject]. Two-Color Nelson Ceramic Transferware Mourning Jug. [England, ca. 1806-1810]. An exceptional Nelson Mourning Jug from the period immediately after the Battle of Trafalgar. Size approximately 6 ½ x 7 ½” at the handle. This rare jug is of the uncommon two-color type, in this case, brown and yellow. The highly detailed transfer has images of Nelson, H. M. S. Victory and other national and naval motifs. Some rubbing, with minor occasional loss of color near the rim and a few other places. Still, a fine example of this rarity.
