Luristan, modern day Iran, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. This is a long, thin bronze spear butt in the shape of a very elongated pyramid; the bottom is a socket with a small hole drilled through it. This would have been the back end of a speared weapon, created so a soldier could fight with both ends. Bronze Age Luristan art was the work of nomadic herdsmen and horsemen who crafted small, portable objects, including daggers, swords, and other weapons. Weapons like these would almost certainly have been entombed in the small rock graves in which their owners were buried. Size: 11.5" L x 1.9" W (29.2 cm x 4.8 cm).
