Description
**Originally Listed At $500**
Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan culture, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. An enormous bronze spear head cast via the lost-wax (cire perdue) process. The weapon has a broad leaf-shaped blade, a stocky diamond-shaped handle, a slender tang with a small attachment hook, and a shallow midrib which runs the length of the blade and handle. The large size of this spear head suggests this may have been used by a horse-riding warrior, enabling them to kill an opposing horse in one strike rather than with multiple strikes using a smaller weapon. Each component is enveloped in layers of russet and pale-green patina. Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 3.1" W x 20" H (7.9 cm x 50.8 cm); 20.75" H (52.7 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: ex-private Green collection, York, United Kingdom
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
