CIVIL WAR LETTERS AND CURRENCY, LOT OF THREE, comprising a T-70 Confederate two dollar note, Feb. 17th, 1864, serial number 113332, with printed poem to back "Lines on the Back of a Confederate Note" or "The Lost Cause" attributed to Major S. A. Jonas, titled "IN MEMORIAM. / Respectfully Dedicated to the Holders of Confederate Treasury Notes." and marked "J. NEWHAM, Printer, 114 Nassau St., N.Y. CITY."; and two Union soldiers' letters, one written by one Albert A. Baker, of Company H, 14th Regt., presumably the 14th Massachusetts, dated Oct. 26th 1862, from "Camp near the Chesapeak (sic) & Ohio Canal," describing the trip south beginning in "Allens Point, Conn" (sic), and ending in Washington, D.C., and the other signed simply "Dave" from "Headquarters Commissary Department / 9th Regt. Penn.a. Reserve, Camp on / Miners Hill Va." dated April 12th, 1863, and describing some camp life, but being primarily concerned with the writer's affection for the recipient, with post cover addressed to "Miss Sarah A. Hyde / in care of M. P. Griswold / 891 Main St / Hartford / Connecticut" with three cent stamp and Washington, D. C. postmark. Second half 19th century. Confederate $2 note 3 1/8" x 7 1/8".
