Ticket/Invitation
A Tiffany & Co. to the Statue of Liberty inauguration ceremony. Measuring 7.5'' x 5.5", n.p., ca. October 1886. The dedication ceremony, presided over by President Grover Cleveland, was to be held at Bedloe's Island, New York Harbor on October 28, 1886. The invitation reads in part: ''...You are invited to be present on the occasion of the inauguration by the President of the United States, of the Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World...'' Tiffany & Co. designed the card to feature an image of the Statue on its pedestal, with the shields of both the United States and France. Mounting residue on verso. Faint wear and toning at the edges and corners. Overall very good condition.
Originally known as ''Liberty Enlightening the World,'' the statue was designed by French sculptor Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi as a gift of friendship from France. The 151-foot statue was shipped over in more than 200 packing cases and reassembled, with the last rivet fitted on October 28, 1886.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
