Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A pair of stone axe gods of a highly abstract style, the humanoid details rendered to the most minimal of forms. Aptly placed string-cut lines and grooves delineate the legs, arms, head, and mouths on both. These simplified stone figures from the Guerrero region were dubbed as "axe gods" based on scholars' suppositions that they were carved from repurposed stone axe heads that had been damaged or otherwise unusable. Size: 5.75" L x 3" W (14.6 cm x 7.6 cm)

Condition
Losses as shown to the lower waist and head of the darker stone. Losses and abrasions to the lower legs of the other figure. Nice mineral / earthen deposits scattered on the lighter stone figure and a few light deposits on darker stone figure.
