Description
Pre-Columbian, Southwest Mexico, Guerrero, ca. 400 to 100 BCE. A hand-carved, deep grey-green stone (probably andesite) depicting a standing anthropomorphic figure, the human physiognomy displaying appealing stylization. The ancient artisans of this region were particularly adept at reducing the human body to simple, eloquent forms via a string cut technique. Note the dramatically tapered head, cut separation between the legs, and abstract facial features that ironically appeal to a modernist taste for minimalism. Size: 1.75" W x 4.25" H (4.4 cm x 10.8 cm).
