Description
Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A fine standing axe god figure of a characteristically abstract form, hand-carved from mottled dark grey and hunter green stone with salmon pink inclusions. The figure presents with fused legs, a stocky abdomen, and slender arms that fold at the elbows and rest together on his stomach. The spade-shaped head presents drilled eyes and string-cut grooves defining the nose, lips, nasolabial folds, and ears. Size: 1.25" W x 4.125" H (3.2 cm x 10.5 cm) Size: 1.25" W x 4.125" H (3.2 cm x 10.5 cm); Size of included display case: 5.25" W x 6.25" H (13.3 cm x 15.9 cm)
