Description
Pre-Columbian, Nayarit, West Mexico, ca. 300 BCE to 500 CE. This is a red and cream slipped pottery seated warrior in the "Chinesco" style (so named because early collectors thought it resembled Chinese pottery) who holds a square shield and has a delightful, large headdress. This would have been one of the grave goods placed alongside the dead in the West Mexican shaft tomb tradition. Size: 4.5" W x 5.5" H (11.4 cm x 14 cm).

Provenance: Ex Professor Dr. Peter Arnowick Collection, CA, Collected before 1970
