Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 600 to 100 BCE. A hand-carved greenstone axe god, so called because scholars believe this type of figure was created from broken or otherwise discarded stone axe heads. The abstract figure presents with pecked eye slits, a pecked mouth, a string-cut neck line, and delineated feet. Size: 1.54" L x 1.83" W x 4" H (3.9 cm x 4.6 cm x 10.2 cm)

Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966
