Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 600 to 100 BCE. A hand-carved greenstone head of characteristically abstract form that exhibits mottled hues of sage and cream. Deep, string-cut grooves create the minimalist facial features that include a broad mouth, deep nasolabial folds, and broad eyes, and the rounded forehead is biconically drilled through the top to create a suspension hole. Size: 1" L x 2.3" W x 2.75" H (2.5 cm x 5.8 cm x 7 cm)
