**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. An unusual juglet-shaped pendant that is hand-carved from mottled dark-green stone with inclusions in hues of black, grey-white, and beige. The flat-bottomed pendant has a spherical body, a corseted neck, an apple-shaped upper body that tapers to a squat rim, and an integral handle with a biconically drilled perforation. The overall form suggests it is modeled after a sizable vessel made from a hollow gourd. Size: 1.625" W x 2.9" H (4.1 cm x 7.4 cm)
Provenance: ex-private collection of the late Father Bader, University of St. Thomas, Houston, Texas, USA; exhibited in the University of St. Thomas Art Gallery, acquired prior to 2000
