Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 1st to 6th century CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery vessel of spherical form with a round base, a sloped upper body, and a bridge handle spanning between a pair of conical spouts. Illustrated on the vessel's surfaces are 2 abstract depictions of a mythological feline guardian creature, each with lengthy whiskers, enormous eyes, lengthy bodies, perky ears, and drooping tongues. Areas of maroon, tan, white, brown, gray, and tan pigment create the wondrous imagery. Size: 5.7" Diameter x 6.8" H (14.5 cm x 17.3 cm)

Professionally repaired and restored, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and nicks, with fading to areas of original pigment. Nice preservation to overall decorative motif. Previous inventory label beneath base.
