Description
An oak mechanical writing box with letter holder and side handles, late 19th century. The front and one side handle are missing, the top slightly warped, else good condition. The top with brass shield engraved "TR". When the top is lifted the writing box in the front opens automatically. The box measures 12 3/4"W x 7 3/4"D (at base) x 11"H. Provenance: From the Thomas & Gail Rockwell collection, LaGrangeville NY. Tom is the son of the renowned American artist, Norman Rockwell and the author or many children's books. His late wife Gail, was an artist-illustrator and the daughter of Arthur E. Sudler and Janet Whitson Sudler, both early 20th century artists - she illustrated several of her husband's children's books.
