Garden City, N.Y.: Doubleday, Page & Company, 1922. 16 vols., 8vo, 'Seawood Edition', publisher's blue-paper-covered boards with tan cloth spines, titles and author on paper labels to spines, spare paper labels tipped to rear of each volume, top edges gilt, other edges deckled, portrait frontispiece in Vol. I, number 323 of 1075 copies, signed by publisher on limitation page. Lengthy inscription by Tarkington to Dr. Matthias Haines, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis, on blank before half title, signed and dated December 3, 1923. Laid in are three other letters: one from Haines to Tarkington dated December 5, 1923, thanking him for the gift of the Seawood Edition; one typed letter signed from Tarkington to Haines dated June 1, 1937; and one autograph letter signed from Tarkington to Haines dated May 18, 1909, the last two with original envelopes. Also a Western Union telegram dated May 4, 1940 sending Haines 'heartiest congratulations and affection on this your day' from Booth and Susannah Tarkington.
