Marked 1st edition on copyright page. Signed on sticker affixed to first endpage with "At Ease. Published June 16, 1967. Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. For: Lt. Gen. A.H. Stackpole, With best wishes," typed and followed by Eisenhower's signature. Eisenhower (1890-1969) had left the presidency in 1961 and was then retired to his farm in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. General Albert Hummel Stackpole (1897-1971) was a Harrisburg, Pennsylvania native and was known to have met and conferred with Eisenhower during the Second World War. His wife, Mary, was a 1952 Republican elector for Eisenhower in Pennsylvania. PROVENANCE: From the estate of Mary Trost (1933-2022) of Harrisburg, daughter of General Stackpole and his wife, Mary. MEASUREMENTS: 9-3/8" high x 6-1/4" wide. CONDITION: Dust jacket torn along top and bottom, along with scuffing and wear to front. The book itself remains in good condition and tightly bound, with slight bubbling to top of end paper affixed to interiors of front and back boards, likely as a result of imperfect gluing during production.
