The 1924 Democratic National Convention was the longest continuously convened gathering of its kind in American history, as Democratic Party electors cast no fewer than 103 ballots to select John W. Davis of West Virginia, former U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain, as presidential candidate; and then Nebraska Governor Charles W. Bryan as vice presidential candidate. The Democrats were swept by the Republican ticket--incumbent 30th U.S. President Calvin Coolidge and his vice presidential running mate Charles G. Dawes--on November 4, 1924.
