1871 2nd U.S. Grant Presidential Campaign, U.S. Grant & Henry Wilson "Jugate" Style Carte de Visite Photograph, About Fine.
Jugate Image Carte de Visite, produced for Grant's Second Presidential Campaign measures 2.5" x 4". The image shows US Grant in his military uniform, along side his running mate, Henry Wilson. The legends text reads: "For President, U. S. Grant. For Vice President, Henry Wilson." Bottom of the card reads, "Despite the annual large reductions of the rates of taxation, the public debt has been reduced during General Grant's Presidency, at the rate of one hundred million dollars a year." Handwritten notation sarcastically reads: "Reduced $800.000.000". Reverse has written notation of the likely original owner, "Edgar Borland March 25 1871". Minor wear overall and some scuffing/aging on the albumen photo. Rarely encountered type and a highly unusual "Jugate" design Presidential Campaign Carte de Visite.
