Description
American Civil War brass ID disc belonging to Private Thomas A. Davis, of Company D, 41st Massachusetts Infantry. Obverse of disc presents bust portrait of Abraham Lincoln facing right and text surrounding "ABRAHAM LINCOLN PRESIDENT U.S. WAR OF 1861". Reverse of disc presents stamped lettering "THOMAS A. DAVIS. CO. D. 41ST MASS. VOLS. SO. BOSTON. MASS". Disc measures 1.2" in diameter. Surface of badge exhibits light patina and is in near mint condition. Thomas A. Davis enlisted on August 19, 1862 and was mustered into Company D of the 41st Massachusetts Infantry regiment on September 6, 1862. He deserted on November 5, 1862. On this day, November 5, 1862, the 41st Massachusetts Infantry left Camp Stanton in Lynnfield, Massachusetts to travel by train to New York City. Provenance: Gary Wolfer collection.
