Description
American Civil War brass ID disc belonging to Corporal James Hurst, of Company K, 36th New York Infantry. Obverse of disc presents center shield with text surrounding "AGAINST REBELLION 1861". Reverse of disc presents stamped lettering "CORPL. J. HURST. CO. K 36TH REGT N.Y.S.V. N.Y.CITY". Disc measures 1.2" in diameter. Surface of badge exhibits slight wear with toned patina and presents small jump ring. James Hurst enlisted in New York City on June 7, 1861 and was mustered into Company K, of the 36th New York Infantry regiment on June 24, 1861. He was promoted to corporal on November 1, 1862. Hurst mustered out in with his company on July 15, 1863. Provenance: Gary Wolfer collection.
