[CIVIL WAR]
STRATTON, ALFRED. Two CDVs of Stratton in a carved wood period frame of this Civil War amputee. One CDV is by Fredricks & Co, Fifth Ave; the other by Ormsbee, Broadway. A few repaired defects in the frame.
Alfred A. Stratton of Co. G, 147th New York Infantry Regiment, lost his arms to friendly fire on June 18, 1864, at Petersburg, Virginia, and was discharged for wounds on September 27, 1864. He was a subject of popular sympathy and made some income by the sale of these cards. He married in 1865, and later worked as a minister. He died in Washington, D.C on June 13, 1874 and was buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
