Item Details
Description
This is a premier example of the wartime McDowell style forage cap with original 1st Cavalry insignia on the front. It retains both original eagle “C” side buttons and chinstrap as well, and the sweatband and interior lining is excellent plus. This beautiful piece of headgear was a centerpiece in the noted collection of Dr. Edward R. Burka (1930-2021), a noted expert on Civil War medical items and was likely identified–unfortunately, the family could not locate the records on it–perhaps with some research, the history will once more come to life. Museum and investment grade overall and 100% original and authentic in all ways.
