Description
American Civil War copper ID disc belonging to Private Edwin Northrop, of Battery H, 1st Rhode Island Light Artillery. Obverse of disc presents bust portrait of George Washington facing right and text below "UNION". Reverse of disc presents stamped lettering "EDWIN NORTHROP 1 REG. LIGHT. ART. RIV. ENT'D SERV. AUG 25. 1862. EMILY A. NORTHROP". Disc measures 1.25" in diameter. Surface of badge exhibits toned uncleaned patina. Edwin Northrop (1838-1910) enlisted on August 25, 1862 and was mustered into Battery H, of the 1st Rhode Island Light Artillery regiment on October 14, 1862. He mustered out in with his battery in Providence, Rhode Island on June 28, 1865. Northrop is buried in the Norwalk Union Cemetery, Norwalk, Connecticut.
