Description
(1896 - 1984) American Army general, commanded the landings at Salerno and Anzio against the forces of Kesselring. T.L.S. on his Commander in Chief, Far East Command letterhead, Tokyo, 1p. 4to., June 14, 1952. Clarks states that he will be pleased to sign some photographs for an admirer, adding: '...It always gives me great pleasure to see and hear from the men who served with me in Italy, and I deeply appreciate your kind words about my present assignment. I walked into a difficult situation, but knowing I have the confidence of my fellow Americans gives me additional strength to carry on...' Fine condition. During the Korean War, Clark took over as commander of the United Nations Command on May 12, 1952, succeeding General Matthew Ridgway, a close friend and a fellow graduate of the West Point class of 1917. Clark commanded those UN forces until the armistice was signed on July 27, 1953.
