Description
(1896 - 1984) American general, commanded the landings at Salerno and Anzio against the forces of Kesselring. Pair of signed items, includes an S.P., 8 x 10 in. b/w, an official Army photograph showing Clark meeting with French Gen. Charles de Gaulle in Tuscany on June 28, 1944, signed by Clark adding rank. Tiny tear in right margin. Sold with Clark's letter of transmittal on The Citadel letterhead, 1p. 4to., Charleston, Feb. 22, 1966 returning the signed photograph and noting: '...It brought back vivid memories of those difficult days and my association with him [de Gaulle] and the other Frenchmen in my command...' Two pieces, overall fine. The following day, de Gaulle presented Clark with the Legion of Honor and the Croix de Guerre.
