Description
ENGLISH HAND-PAINTED CERAMIC PAIR OF FIGURES, each standing on a square base with elbow resting on stacked books upon a column, comprising one example depicting John Milton holding a paper in left hand inscribed with excerpt from "Paradise Lost" and one example featuring Shakespeare with left arm reaching towards paper with excerpt from "The Tempest". Milton having incised "No 2/1" to underside, otherwise unmarked. Possibly Staffordshire, England. Circa 1850. 11" HOA.

Condition
Milton having discolored restoration to paper; Shakespeare having broken and glued head and arm, restoration to finger, each having some wear to gilt decorations and crazing. Some having manufacturing flaws including glazed over firing separations, as made.
