Description

Important Civil War Brigadier General Commission of Samuel C. Lawrence of the 3rd. Brigade in the Massachusetts Militia, dated June 10th 1862. A rarely observed C.W. commission of a great commander, this document is on heavy white paper with tri fold creases. The document is signed and sealed by John A. Andrew Governor of Massachusetts. Measures 16" x 10-1/2" Light toning of paper at folds on rear of document. NOTE: When a Colonel, Samuel C. Lawrence was wounded in action in 1861 at Sudley Springs Hill during his service, after his regiment was ordered to lay down on the field while Artillery Shells were flying over head. Colonel Lawrence refused, he remained standing over his men and was wounded then carried from the field of battle.
