Interesting Civil War Document allowing Samuel C. Lawrence to have a substitute person stand in his name for the draft of 1864 there by exempting him from service, dated September 3rd 1864. His substitute was Daniel Toomey and his enlistment was for 3 years. General Lawrence has just resigned his Commission 14 days prior as Brigadier General. Document is in nice shape having tri fold creases.
