Civil War Officer Discharge of Colonel Samuel C. Lawrence in the 5th Massachusetts Regiment dated July 31st 1861 after returning home wounded. Colonel Samuel C. Lawrence was wounded in action at Sudley Springs Hill during this service, after his regiment was ordered to lay down on the field while Artillery Shells were flying over their heads. Colonel Lawrence refused, he remained standing over his men and was wounded then carried from the field of battle. Document measures 10-3/4" x 8-1/2" and has 4 small crease tears at edge fold.
