Description
**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE; Central Mexico, Teotihuacan, ca. 3rd to 7th century CE; Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. An interesting gathering of 4 hand-built pottery figures from a variety of ancient cultures. First is a seated Colima figure with attenuated limbs and an enlarged head with gently incised decorations. Second is a standing Colima nude female gingerbread figure with perky breasts, an elongated head, and a prominent, aquiline nose. Third is an abstract Maya zoomorph, standing on 4 nubbin legs, with an unusual simian-like face and a massive tail. The largest Teotihuacan figure sits with bent legs and wears a thick waistband, a necklace with discoid beads, and a projecting, feathered headdress. Size of largest (Teotihuacan figure): 2.6" W x 3.5" H (6.6 cm x 8.9 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s
