Description
**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. Skillfully modeled from terracotta, a regal female figure standing on her bare feet with her arms outstretched. Highly decorated, she wears a crossed headband crowned by a round medallion and feathers, long ear ornaments, a beaded necklace, armlets, and a belted lower tunic with incised striations further adorning her legs. Bare breasts and ample hips emphasize her feminine state - and her visage is finely defined with almond-shaped eyes, an aquiline nose, and a gentle smile. The attention to detail is impressive - note those endearing delineated fingers and toes. Size: 7.5" H (19 cm); 8.25" H (21 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private Southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
