Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A lovely, hand-built terracotta flat figure reclining on a raised, integral platform. The figure wears an intricate corded skirt with a pleated fringe as well as a simple belt, a large necklace with an impressed linear pattern, and several circular discs on each shoulder. Both legs are curved upwards at the knee while both arms are wrapped over a slender torso. Above the thick neck is a calm, almost-serene visage with coffee-bean eyes, a petite nose, and thin lips, all flanked by a pair of triangular earrings, with a pinched headband atop an extended brow. The figure's head rests upon an extended headrest, imbuing the figure with an appearance of complete relaxation. A wonderful and unusual example replete with character and charm! Size: 4.25" L x 3" W x 3.25" H (10.8 cm x 7.6 cm x 8.3 cm).

Portion of torso and head reattached to platform. Expected age-commensurate surface wear, small nicks to limbs and raised details, with some discoloration and fading to details, otherwise very good. Light earthen and mineral deposits throughout.
