Description
Pre-Columbian, Southern Peru, Nazca, ca. 100 BCE to 800 CE. An intriguing hand-built pottery drinking vessel known as a kero, painted with figures in hues of black, red, orange, beige, and white. The kero is a designed for drinking corn-based beer known as chicha, this example has a rounded base and tall walls. The exterior is decorated with a repeating motif of human figures in profile wearing loin cloths and carrying what appears to be pan pipes. This procession of figures may be exalting the drinker, for such a finely painted vessel was likely reserved for the wealthy and elite. Size: 3.5" Diameter x 6" H (8.9 cm x 15.2 cm)
